The Sanctuary of Saint Philomena always responds. Sometimes a bit more. Last Sunday there was the Patronage of the little Saint. People were expected, yes, but a flood of people showed up. How many devotees Saint Philomena has! A packed church, at the limit. Faces coming from everywhere, and which, in some cases, hinted at far-off origins. For one day the people of Mugnano offered hospitality. Total and full. The Cult broke banks and borders. The faithful crowded close to one another. Perhaps, more than ever, that morning true brotherhood was practiced. Those standing were invited to squeeze onto the same pew. Tender scenes of communion, affection, love. The Rector Don Giuseppe on the churchyard stayed waiting. Trembling, he awaited the arrival of H.E. Bishop Francesco Marino. And the expectation was shared by all. The participation palpable. Then the chatter suddenly softened. A man with the Crosier, followed by a multitude of prelates, began to cut through the crowd. The firm step, accompanied by continual blessings, confirmed his presence at the high altar. The service thus began. Convinced participation. Clear and limpid homily. Careful synchrony. The blessing of the oil served as a corollary. This, then, is a phenomenon that has existed and endured for a long time. It brings together those who came from Puglia, those from Molise, those from France and those from Mugnano of the Cardinal itself. The rite consists in offering the precious liquid at the feet of Saint Philomena's altar. It will feed the lamp. Almost two hours officiating the sacred Eucharist service. But passed like a flash. Shared adherence and participation. For everyone. Greetings, at the end, among those who had never known each other before. Smiles and hugs among distant peoples but united in those moments lived together. Without, perhaps, fully understanding each other, the promise to see one another again. Yet another Patronage. Again and always Saint Philomena!Enzo Pecorelli Enzo Pecorelli Enzo Pecorelli Enzo Pecorelli

A tous.

The Shrine of Saint Philomena always responds. Sometimes even more. Last Sunday was the Patronage of the Santina. People were expected, yes, but a sea of people showed up. How many devotees Saint Philomena has! Church packed to the rafters. Faces coming from everywhere, in some cases tracing back to distant roots. For one day, the Mugnanesi offered hospitality. Total and complete. Worship broke banks and boundaries. The faithful drew close to one another. Perhaps more than ever, true brotherhood was lived that morning. Those who were standing were invited to squeeze together in the same pew. Tender scenes of communion, affection, love. Rector Don Giuseppe in the churchyard stood waiting. Anxiously, they awaited the arrival of H.E. Bishop Francesco Marino. And the expectation was shared by all. Participation was palpable. Then the hubbub suddenly died down. A man with a crosier, followed by a multitude of prelates, began to make his way through the crowd. His firm step, accompanied by continuous blessings, marked his presence at the high altar. The service thus began. Convincing participation. Clear and concise homily. Precise synchrony. The blessing of the oil served as a corollary. This, then, is a phenomenon that has existed for a long time. Some came from Apulia, some from Molise, some from France and some from Mugnano del Cardinale itself. The rite consists of offering the precious liquid at the foot of the altar of Santa Filomena. It will feed the lamp. Almost two hours officiating the sacred function of the Eucharist. Yet it passed in a flash. Communal adhesion and participation. For all. Greetings, at the end, among those who had never before known each other. Smiles and hugs between peoples far apart but united in those moments lived together. Without, perhaps, fully understanding each other, the promise to see each other again. Yet another Patronage. Again and always Saint Philomena!

Homilia clara e concisa. Sincronia exacta.
